"Sport Nmaernet" commences in Wukro
The “Sport Nmaernet” (“Sport makes us equal” in Tigrigna language) project, developed by the International Sociological Sport Observatory (co-founded by the EducarUno Foundation), began operations on 4th March in Wukro (Ethiopia).
The Sports Director and CEO of EducarUno’s Observatory, Jaume Mora Arribas, and the director, Roser Fernandez Benito , traveled to the town of Tigray in early January to officially present the project to the mayor, Wendmeneh Girmay. The major offered all necessary support to facilitate the implementation. “Sport Nmaernet” will enable hundreds of children belonging to the poorest families in Wukro to have access to sporting activities, which will be accompanied by a daily meal.
The project aims, to promote comprehensive education of the participants through sports, while combating the serious problems of severe malnutrition. Wukro becomes, with Nuevo Leon and Barcelona, the third city participating in the “Sport makes us equal” program. The scientific project, which combines social work and sport, is having wide repercussions internationally, in political, scientific and academic areas. Governments of several countries and states have expressed interest in a possible implementation in their respective territories.
